Why separate lubrication on 2-stroke engines?
On a two-stroke engine, the engine oil does not circulate in the crankcase as it does on a four-stroke. It is injected into the air/fuel mixture via an oil pump. The gearbox and clutch are lubricated with a specific oil, as they do not receive the engine oil.
For 2-stroke motorcycles usually, a standard multi-purpose SAE 10W-40 motorcycle oil is used, as it is formulated to also handle the clutch and gearbox. Or sometimes a specific 2-stroke gearbox oil, 80W-90 API GL-5, is used (if there is high stress on the gearbox gears).
